What do Virtual Assistants or VAs do?

Virtual Assistants Roles and Tasks

Who is a Virtual Assistant?

Firstly, who is a Virtual Assistant or VA? In our side of the industry, a VA is a virtual assistant or specifically, a virtual personal assistant. This term covers all those who see themselves as online business managers, executive assistants, social media managers, content creators (user-generating content creators), administrators, transcribers, legal assistants, graphic designers, researchers, project managers, data entry specialists, and medical/health and wellness virtual assistants. This list is inexhaustible as anyone who provides support remotely or via the Internet can fall into this category.

Freelance virtual assistants offer very flexible terms; they can be paid per hour, do full-time hours, or rely on their project management expertise and get paid per task or milestone. Virtual assistant services don’t evolve only with your business. Yes, you read that right. It is understandable for business owners to not only panic with administrative tasks but even with personal errands. Virtual assistant jobs can extend to making phone calls to your client’s favorite restaurant, making travel arrangements, or purchasing gifts. That’s how vast magic virtual assistant skills can go!

Your London Beauty Virtual Assistant

Now, who am I? I have a background in Science (a 2.1 BSc in Biology) and have worked in the public and private health sector for almost 2 decades as an administrator. I also interned as a lab technician throughout the university. Having systems and a competent team to go through procedures, review and analyse feedback to make your systems better is the bedrock of every successful business and the fantasy of every business owner.

I have been a beauty content creator since 2011 and received recognition and requests to help with digital marketing. After trying that for half a decade, the need to pivot was clear. I needed to step back into my administrative role for my clients first.

Digital marketing is like giving out fliers for an awesome party at your house. The house being your business and the flyers being shared the details of your offer. Digital marketing is still one of the cheapest forms of marketing and this means we can reach more people, specifically tailored to your industry.

This is a good thing, a great thing even.

Unfortunately, what was happening with my clients was the crowd that got to their party, couldn’t get in.

There was no one to let them in (DMS unanswered).

No one was serving any food (no email responses or customer service available to provide feedback or complete sales processes).

Their house didn’t even exist (no website or e-commerce platform but they want us to come up with campaigns, create content for the campaigns, and bring in sales too)

There are a lot of other gaps in the business backend that I have seen especially in startups and small businesses. This is why I put all digital marketing offers on hold until we know that your administrative systems and feedback loops are sorted.

A screenshot of a disgruntled customer’s response time from one of your channels can create a bad impression and dissuade new customers from engaging with your business. The goal of digital marketing is to bring leads to your business but that’s not worth it if the leads are not converted.

When creative blockages emerge, however—due to stress, self-doubt or simply becoming stagnant in our own routines—inspiration can seem increasingly elusive.
